SUSTAINABLE FASHION ROME

THE STATE OF THE ART

Until last year, the Made in Italy occupied the second place of the national GDP, with a turnover of  97 billion euros in 2018..

The World Economic Forum has outlined how the fashion industry is the second most polluting sector in the world after the oil industry.

#2

Every year, fashion is responsible for the 10% of global greenhouse gas emissions (CO2) and contributes to the dissipation of 20% of total water resources used in various production phases (dyeing, printing, finishing and of course also to maintain cotton plantations).

Fashion supports a turnover of 225 billion EUR, and occupies with stable employment more than 300 million people globally and contributes significantly to the world’s wealth.

According to the UN, it is estimated that the fashion sector consumes more energy than air transport and maritime transport combined.

Every year the 85%of fabrics, are accountable for further polluting the planet because of PM10, PM5, PM1.

Textiles and clothing have huge impact on ocean pollutionabout 60%of total clothes are made of polyester which after being washed, releases about 500 thousand tons of microfibers in waterways (the equivalent of 50 billion plastic bottles).

SUSTAINABLE FASHION IN ROME: A POSSIBLE CHOICE

Encouraging consumers to buy less, bringing the sector back to an idea of slow-fashion of beautiful and well made, also means abandoning the compulsive attitude towards having overflowing wardrobes

COVID has changed our habits and customs; and Fashion will be the most disrupted and renewed sector. The fashion disruption must respect the paradigms of business ethics, manufacturing ecology and sustainability towards the planet, as required by Sustainable Development Goals of the UN 2030 Agenda, that’s the reason for the creation of Sustainable Fashion Innovation Society:

VISION

SFIS-logo-1000

In line with the current dynamics of ethical awareness and corporate civil responsibility in terms of sustainable fashion Rome, the SUSTAINABLE INNOVATION FASHION WEEK was the first event hosted in the capital in accordance with the SDGs – Sustainable Development Goals of the United Nations 2030 Agenda. In order to participate to the event, the selected brands must posses very strong sustainability, ethics or innovation elements within their company.

Phygital Sustainability EXPO, promoted by Valeria Mangani, President of Sustainable Fashion Innovation Society, contains a series of international workshops, narrated fashion shows and showrooms; effectively opening the doors to an epochal awareness and paradigm shift.

The declared objective of Sustainable Fashion Innovation Society in to support all start-ups that are genuinely born green as well as those already established brands that intend to rethink themselves by adopting more responsible production formulas that comply with the SDGs, the Sustainable Development Goals of the United Nations 2030 Agenda. The fashion industry has to deal with its responsibilities.

IF YOU DRESS PLASTIC, YOU WILL EAT PLASTIC.

In 2019, a group of Italian researchers have found traces of plastic in human placenta and microfibers in liver tumors. What are we waiting for to implement the Green Revolution? Only MADE IN ITALY can perform it masterfully, preserving the design style that distinguishes us globally.

The great collective response received by our event has attracted the attention of Microsoft for Startups which will observe the incubator until the next PHYGITAL SUSTAINABILITY EXPO in Rome:

“We aim to make our ethical designers’ priceless heritage of creativity known and appreciated, with events like this emphasizing the winning mix of eco-tech. It is urgent that the Italian fashion system develops sustainable competitiveness models by bridging the technological gap, designers and fashion brands to build a new future of fashion”.
